Born in Manaus, Amazonas, to a school teacher and a businessman Leda Montenegro moved to Rio de Janeiro at eleven years old.
Leda studied Industrial Design and Visual Communication, but she left school to fight against the oppression during the military dictatorship.
Married at twenty she gave birth to three children, and now she has a granddaughter.
The stories of indigenous people she used to hear when a child in the Amazon, her passion for literature and for different cultures, and the aspiration to serve humanity were just a few things that inspired and motivated her to become a writer.
Leda keeps residence in Florida, USA where her daughter and granddaughter also reside and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
